Quick start

Considered ships as two binaries: the main CLI and the bundledscc provider. The CLI discovers providers by executable name, so both binaries must be on your PATH.

Install on macOS with Homebrew

brew install --cask quitepicky/tap/considered

The package installs both binaries together.

Linux and manual macOS installation

Download the archive for your operating system and processor fromGitHub Releases. Releases include Linux and macOS archives for amd64 (x86-64) and arm64. Compare the archive's SHA-256 hash with the release'schecksums.txt, extract it, and put both consideredand considered-scc on your PATH.

Windows

Download the Windows archive fromGitHub Releases, extract it, and add the directory containing both executables to yourPATH. Choose amd64 for x64 or arm64for Windows on Arm, and verify the archive against checksums.txt. The WinGet submission forQuitePicky.Considered isawaiting community review. Until it is accepted and indexed, use the release archive.

Install from source

Requires Git and Go 1.26 or newer, with the vendored submodule initialized.

git clone --recurse-submodules https://github.com/quitepicky/considered.git
cd considered
go build -o bin/considered ./cmd/considered
go build -o bin/considered-scc ./cmd/considered-scc

Put both binaries somewhere on your PATH, or add the localbin/ directory while you are trying it out.

Initialize a repository

considered init

This writes a starter .considered.yaml to the repository root. It fails if one already exists.

Run a check

considered check

The text report separates failing violations from passing variances and near-boundary warnings.

Add a variance

considered variance add \
  --subject src/parser/grammar.ts \
  --metric scc.code_lines \
  --kind architectural \
--reason "Grammar definitions are intentionally centralized."

Considered captures the subject's current metric value as the approved boundary and writes the variance into the configuration.
